In a shocking announcement the Championship Gaming Series has announced the immediate cease of all operations. See below for more information in a Cadred exclusive.
A few minutes ago I received an email from CGS with the following official statement.
AN IDEA WHOSE TIME CAME TOO EARLY
Today BSkyB, STAR and DIRECTV ended their Championship Gaming Series® (CGS) joint venture.
While the concept was ahead of its time and we are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished, it became increasingly clear as this ambitious project evolved, that profitability was too far in the future for us to sustain operations in the interim.
Our goal was to be ahead of the curve in the e-sports space, and conceived of CGS as a true sports league. We invested wholeheartedly in the venture and presented viewers with a top-notch production, but the economics just didn’t add up for us at this time.
Our only regret is that we will lose a team of creative and talented individuals who invested their hearts and souls into Championship Gaming Series. We recognize their achievements and thank them for their hard work and passion.
BSkyB, STAR and DIRECTV continue to be committed to the video games sector, which is an important part of many of our customers’ lives and a great source of entertainment.
We will be bringing you full information as soon as it comes in.
Update: The CGS have now published it on their website, it has been 100% confirmed true with Cadred breaking the story first.
A little over two months ago NewWorld.com Inc. announced the sale of the Cyberathlete Professional League (the CPL) to an investments group based in the United Arab Emirates, and Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL) has now followed.
CAL had remained in the hands of Angel Munoz's company but Cadred.org can now confirm that the newly formed CPL Holdings Group LLC has "acquired the Cyberathlete Amateur League in an all cash transaction that divests NewWorld.com Inc. and its shareholders from any interest in CAL".
It is expected that this release will make it onto the CPL and CAL websites later today.
Angela Summers, a UAE based PR spokesperson that Cadred spoke to about the CPL deal two months ago, has said:
We are excited to have completed our first acquisition at the new CPL. We are also evaluating other media and gaming technology properties in Europe and Asia for either acquisition or partnership.
Cadred will keep you up to date with any other developements on this story.
Multiplay have announced the preliminary tournament information for their i36 event, with lowered prize funds for both Counter-Strike: Source and Call of Duty.
Addiitionally they have revealed that Call of Duty 4 will only have a fun tournament, with the cash prize going to Call of Duty 5 (World at War).
The event, set to take place from the 10th to the 13th of April next year, will offer £5,000 for Counter-Strike: Source, down from €12,000 at i35, and Call of Duty 5 will offer only £2,500, down from €6,000 at i35.
No Multiplay staff were available to comment, but a released statement reads:
We have confirmed three prize tournaments already and although they might not surprise many people, they have a proven track record for producing some of the best competition we’ve seen at the i-Series.
There is much more to come for i36 tournaments - and the prizes for the competitions below may even increase depending on popularity and additional sponsors - just keep your eyes peeled!
Four Kings has gone back to British roots with the pickup of the almost all UK Counter-Strike: Source line-up, The Last Resort.
The most recent Swedish source line-up for Four Kings never officially folded, but have been “inactive” for quite some time. Four Kings General Manager Ian “Javax” Leckey revealed to Cadred today that the team actually folded a while ago and the players have gone their separate ways. We’ll have more on what the individual members of the old team are doing at a later date.
The Last Resort had a successful i35; placing 5th/6th and we recently interviewed Carlos “Dumbazo” Garcia, when asked about future plans for the team he said “some surprises coming soon”, he was obviously referring to this move.
General Manager Ian “Javax” Leckey gave the following statement;
With the recent inactivity and subsequent folding of our Swedish line-up, we felt it necessary to introduce a new team to fly the 4Kings flag in Counter-Strike: Source.
We've taken the decision to re-invest in the UK scene once again with one of the most promising line-ups around, TLR. The team will be representing 4Kings in the ESL Pro Series UK, with their first real challenge coming against Fragmasters Toxic on the 19th.
An unfortunate innocent victim of the move is The Last Resort manager Michael “Chef” Robinson whose quest to find a team that stays with him for two consecutive I-series events seems destined to go on, Michael declined to comment on the move.

American based organisation Sway Gaming has picked up the British Counter-Strike: Source team wTm-Gaming.
The Sway management was recently bolstered by Simon “Madams” Adams, the former owner and manager of crossed. He has revealed the pickup of wTm to the organisation is only the start of things to come in Sway.
We spoke to him over the phone to get this statement;
I’m really happy in the pickup of wTm, they’re a really solid team and they’ve shown they can compete with some of the best teams in the UK. I’d also like that Crazycat, whom filled in for debaser at i35, has really gelled with the team and he will be joining the team full time. Even after a poor i35 performance I still believe they’ve got great potential.
I can also tentatively announce a LAN in North America in February/March. The choice of location is on the back of our highly successful teams in Counter-Strike 1.6 and Team Fortress 2 who rank highly in America. Our new site will be launched shortly as well as more new announcements.
With the roster changes this leaves the line-up as;
